1. Sandstorm
Some effects the sandstorm weather has.
- Rock type Pokémon gain a 50% special defense boost.
- Solar Beam’s power is halved.
- The recovery moves Moonlight and Synthesis only heal 25% HP as opposed to 50% HP
- 1/16 Hp damage to all non rock, ground and steel types.
Some abilities are specialised to suit sandstorm weather.
- Sand Veil: Pokémon with this ability gain a 20% evasion boost.
- Sand Rush: Pokémon with this ability have their speed stat doubled.
- Sand Force: Pokémon with this ability have their rock, steel and ground type moves powered up by 30%.
Pokémon to consider
Sand Streamers
Tyranitar and Hippowdon have the ability sand stream, which creates a permanent sandstorm weather effect throughout the battle. Having both Tyranitar and Hippowdon on your team allows for increased conrol over weather during a battle. Weather supremecy can completly change the flow of a battle in your favour, that way if your in a case where one of your sand streamers has fainted, and the weather has been changed or nullified, you can sen out your other sand streamer to create sandstorm again. I would recommend using Tyranitar as an attacking Pokemon and using Hippowdon as a defensive wall, using the move slack off.
Physical Attackers : Garchomp and Excadrill.
Garchomp the Pseudo - Legendary Pokemon is a fast hard hitting beast. Due to its ability Sand Veil it increases the evasion of a Pokémon by 20% in a sandstorm. This Dragon / Ground Pokemon can decimate teams if they are unprepaired.
Excadrill a Pokemon so powerfull in a sanstorm it was banned from stanndard play and sent to the uber tier of competitive battling. An Excadrill with the ability Sand Rush and the move swords dance can sweep entire teams.
Wall : Ferrothorn
Ferrothorns Grass / Steel typing is one of the best typings in the game, leaving it weak to only Fire and Fighting moves. Ferrothorns ability Iron Barbs causes an opponent using a physical attack to lose 1/8th of its Maximum Hp. Coupling Ferrothorn with a Rocky Helmet will increase the damage dealing 7/24 of the attacker's maximum HP.
Special / Mixed attacker : Lucario
Lucario is a fast hard hitting Pokemon with frail defenses, the main idea is to hit fast and hard thn repeat before you get Ko'ed. Lucario has a fantastic special attack stat which allows it to utilise many strong moves such as Aura Sphere or Focus Blast.
